Ballad of Piargy

A film about love, passion and hope

Young, beautiful, and impoverished, Juliša marries the son of the wealthiest landowner in the village of Piargy, only to find herself trapped in a family governed by strict and oppressive rules. Soon after, she must endure the relentless pressure of her overbearing mother-in-law, while also struggling against the violent advances of her father-in-law. Despite her initial resistance, Juliša finds herself drawn to her husband’s father, and a strange, forbidden love triangle begins to take shape.

However, the scandalous secret does not remain hidden for long. As whispers spread, nearly everyone around Juliša seeks to exploit the situation for their own gain—her sister, the villagers, and even the seemingly pious village priest. Meanwhile, the village of Piargy, rife with sin and moral decay, hurtles toward an ominous fate.

One fateful carnival night, Piargy vanishes without a trace. It is as if hell itself has swallowed the village, along with its people, homes, and animals. Could the chilling prophecy of the old psychic Ula—foretelling the arrival of the Antichrist and a cruel punishment—have finally come true?
